Hello I'm Nikki, thank you for visiting my profile and a very warm welcome.

Here's the good news, whatever you might be struggling with, be it in your relationship, personal or work life, counselling can help. I understand that it can be difficult reaching out especially for the first time and finding the right therapist. I hope that I can help you with that.

With over 13 years of experience helping clients with various presenting issues, I understand that it's difficult sometimes to even know what we are looking for in a counsellor especially if we are feeling sad, confused, distressed or unhappy. To help you with this I can offer you a warm, and non judgemental space in which to explore, identify and work on a range of problems and situations that may be troubling you in complete confidence.

Counselling can give us a new perspective and the ability to see things more clearly. It helps us identify areas in ourselves or our lives that we would like to change and give us back a sense of control. Bringing about change in this way can help us lead a happier and more fulfilling life.

My practice is located in Colden Common near Winchester within easy reach of Eastleigh, Chandlers Ford and surrounding areas and there is parking available.

I would be delighted to informally discuss your requirements and answer any questions you might have about counselling. You are very welcome to call me in confidence on 07411512482 and leave me a message or alternatively you can email me at nikkicharrett@live.co.uk

How do I choose the right counsellor?

Choosing a counsellor can be bewildering and daunting, so how do you choose the right one for you? There are no hard and fast rules but feeling comfortable with your counsellor will help you feel more able to explore difficult feelings and emotions. To help you in your search for the right counsellor I offer a complimentary 30 minute consultation. This is not a counselling session but it will give you the opportunity to meet me and for you to ensure that you are comfortable working with me. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have and if you are feeling anxious or nervous you will hopefully be reassured. Through the counselling relationship I offer a warm, supportive and non judgemental environment in which to explore the issues that are troubling you.

Counselling and Psychotherapy

Sometimes difficult feelings and life circumstances or events can take us by surprise and leave us feeling a bit lost or out of control. When you are experiencing a stressful or challenging time in your personal life, work life or relationship, talking to a professional counsellor/psychotherapist can help you make sense of things and make changes where appropriate.

Counselling usually addresses a specific problem, such as work related stress, relationship issues, panic attacks, worrying or unwanted thoughts and depression to name just a few. It will help you find better ways to cope and takes place on a weekly or fortnightly basis. It is generally short term, perhaps between 6 to 8 sessions depending on whats happening to you.

Psychotherapy focuses on a broader range of issues which lead us to behave and think in certain ways. It is usually longer term and offers a deeper personal insight.

Both counselling and psychotherapy can help you achieve a happier and more fulfilling life by bringing about changes in the way you think and behave.

What might bring you to counselling?

There are a number of things that might bring you to counselling but in my experience its usually because nothing else seems to be helping with the issues that are troubling you. Talking to someone who is not a friend or relative can help you gain a new perspective and make appropriate changes with more confidence.

I have listed a few things that counselling can help with but the list is by no means exhaustive.

  • Stress - including work related stress
  • Panic Attacks and physical symptoms of stress and anxiety
  • Anxiety and negative thoughts
  • Depression, including post natal depression
  • Relationships, affairs, family conflict
  • Domestic Violence
  • Abuse
  • Bereavement and feelings of grief
  • Redundancy and associated feelings of loss and hopelessness
  • Bullying and harassment particularly in the workplace
  • Addiction
  • Low confidence and self esteem
  • Anger management

Relationship Counselling

Even the best relationships can encounter conflict and miscommunication creating unhappiness and distress. Sometimes external influences such as betrayal, affairs and unacceptable behaviours cause the relationship to rupture and falter.

Counselling can help you explore your relationship and feelings together in a non judgemental environment where you can both be heard equally. I will be unbiased and help to facilitate effective communication between you, so that you can resolve the differences and difficulties in your relationship together.
