What to Expect from Counselling
Deciding to seek counselling can feel daunting. It takes courage to ask for support; the first step is often the hardest! Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or your relationship, you can take comfort in knowing that therapy is a safe space where your thoughts, feelings, and experiences are heard without judgment.
Who Counselling Can Help
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You might be experiencing:
Stress, burnout, or work-related pressure
Anxiety, low mood, or intrusive thoughts
Relationship difficulties or recurring conflict
Loss, bereavement, or life transitions
Challenges with self-esteem or confidence
Sometimes, you may not be sure exactly why counselling could help, and simply want to explore your options. Others may be referred by a GP, friend, or family member. Counselling can also support you in managing the physical effects of stress and anxiety, such as tension, headaches, palpitations, or breathlessness.
How Counselling Works
Counselling isn’t about being told what to do, it’s about creating a safe, calm space to slow down, make sense of your feelings, and begin to understand what’s really happening beneath the surface. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, and choices at a pace that feels right for you.
Each session gives you the time to talk openly, without judgment. I may offer gentle reflections or guidance, always with respect for your perspective. Over time, counselling can help you feel clearer, more in control, and better equipped to handle life’s challenges.
What Happens in a Session
We meet in a calm, confidential space, either in person or online.
You share what’s on your mind, at your own pace.
We explore patterns, feelings, and behaviours to uncover insights.
We'll discuss practical strategies to manage stress, emotions, or challenges.
All sessions are flexible and tailored to your needs and goals.

You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. Couples counselling helps at all stages, whether you’re facing ongoing difficulties or simply want to deepen your connection. Many couples say they wish they had started sooner. Sessions provide tools to communicate better, rebuild trust, and strengthen your relationship in a supportive, nonjudgmental space.
Ideally, both partners attend each session so we can work together on communication, understanding, and connection. However, if there are times when one partner cannot attend, we can discuss how to adapt the session so that it still supports your progress.
Yes. Everything you share in sessions is confidential, within the bounds of professional and legal requirements. Confidentiality helps create a safe space where both partners can be open and honest.
Absolutely. Couples counselling isn’t just for relationships in crisis; it can help you explore your feelings, understand your patterns, and make informed decisions about your future.
